hey hey HAYMARKET During the warmer months, every Friday and Saturday, Haymarket, a farmers market near the Government Center T-Stop comes to life. Saturday, my friend Diana and I thought wed take a little trip out to Haymarket to see what kind of deals we could find. Trekking down the Infinite, before we made it to the Kendall T Station, we saw these lime green posters advertising auditions for a show on WGBH, so we decided to follow the posters to a room on the second floor of Building Four where they were casting for a new show for high school kids. We were too old :-( In the stairwell of Building 4, an intrigued Diana looks at the sign advertising the auditions. We continued along to the T Station and soon arrived at Haymarket. The outdoor market was packed with locals, college students, and tourists. Our original mission was to buy enough fruit to make fruit salad for a week for Diana, Rebecca (Dianas roommate), and myself. After browsing the entire market for the best looking fruit and prices and also getting snapped at by a vendor for analyzing the fruit too much, we began to shop and $14 later, we had enough fruit for all of us. Select photos from the day: I just had to take a picture of this sign. Haymarket also has some fish shops, so Diana thought itd be a good idea to buy some fresh fish and cook it for dinner. A few minutes later, we were on our way back to my place with our newly purchased red snapper and several pounds of fruit. We decided to work on the fruit salad first. I cant say that Ive sliced and diced much fruit in my past especially pineapples, so of course, I used my trusty sidekick Google to get me through it. My Googling pays off. After we washed, sliced, and diced our fruit, we tossed it all together, separated it all into 15 Ziploc bags and began on cooking dinner. The menu for the evening was baked red snapper, rice pilaf, and steamed brocolli with ice cream for dessert. Total preparation took less than 20 minutes, but we enjoyed our meal for hours later. PS.
